Last Week:

The first few days of last week were spent getting in some middle distance/sprint sets and some IM work. Then the swimmers transitioned into two days (Wednesday and Thursday) of station work with a mixture of kicking and sprint from the blocks. They also worked on dives, turns, and stroke technique throughout the week in preparation for the meet they had on Saturday against the Orcas. On Friday the swimmers had a split workout of Baseball and of a small set. In the Baseball game of last week, the swimmers were able to choose their own stroke that they felt they wanted to work on before the meet.

Swimmers of the Week: Monday May 7th – Friday May 11th

Practice Group 1 (4-4:30/4:45):

Kylar Flynn: He has been working on the small technique changes in his strokes and he is constantly thinking about what is next in improving and working towards his goals.

Emma Pearson: She listens carefully to the coach’s instructions and she is confident in trying new things. She has been working on her big round arms in freestyle and it is looking great!

Practice Group 2 (4:45-5:45)

Kimi Rossi: She is enthusiastic for every practice and for making improvements on her strokes. She works very hard in the sets and pushes herself to go one step further.

Aisling Cassidy: She is ready to go when practice starts and she starts her warm up right away. She also has been working on all her strokes and is doing a great job in the sets.

Practice Group 3 (5:45-7:15)

LVST @ Orcas Sat. May 12th – Go Lighting!

Should be a great day for swimming on Saturday – the Lucas Valley Lightning will be on fire! Below is a message from the Orcas, the heat sheets are attached and it looks like we may need one or two more timers (please check your volunteer signups). We look forward to seeing everyone in Terra Linda – warm-ups start at 8:00 a.m.

Message from the ORCAS

The ORCAS welcome the Lucas Valley Lightning to Terra Linda on Saturday! The meet starts at 8:30 am and your warm-ups will be at 8:00 am.

PARKING
The pool has a small parking lot, which is usually pretty full by 7:45. Most of the parking is on the street. There is a Shopping Mall lot across the street. In consideration of our neighbors, we ask people NOT to use the spaces directly adjacent to the buildings, i.e: Scotty’s Market and the other small businesses. This parking is for their customers.

NOTE: Anyone parking next to or in front of Ashy’s Nail Salon (on the near corner) is in serious danger of being towed! (No joke!)

POOL
We will save the grassy area behind the wading pool for your team. This is to the right as you enter the gate. There is a fair amount of space, and not a lot of shade. You are welcome to bring your tents. Note: the wading pool will be closed during the meet, and we also ask for help keeping swimmers out of the shallow area of the main pool.

OFFICIALS
Because of the configuration of the pool we need 2 Stroke and Turn Judges from each team for each shift (four in all for the meet). There is one judge at each corner, to cover that quadrant.

Our Referee will be Bruce Keith-Brown. Our Head Timer is Bart Saling. Please have your timers check in with him at 8:00. We have 8 lanes, so we need 8/2 *3) 12 per shift from your team.

COACHES
The Orcas Head Coach is Tim Baker. Our assistant coaches are Andy Benoit and Gina Castagnola..

SNACK BAR
We have a most excellent snack bar, if I do say so myself. Please encourage your team to visit it for meals and refreshments.

The Orcas are looking forward to a fun meet! We will have the coffee ready for you! Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Last Week:

We had a great “spirit week” leading up to our first Dual Meet against the Strawberry Seals. Starts and turns were emphasized and, as always, we got some good sets in and worked on stroke technique. Points were given to the swimmers for attendance and for performance in our “spirit events” that took place at the start of each practice. For instance, on Monday, without revealing what the spirit event for the day was, points were awarded to the first boy and girl to enter the water from each practice. The rest of the week included kickboard toss, ring toss/streamline contest, goggle toss, and relays on Friday. All the points were tallied up from the week and our winners for the spirit week were as follows:

1st Practice:

1st Place: Byron and Jill

2nd Place: Luke, Libby, and Sydney

2nd Practice:

1st Place: Kimi and Leland

2nd Place: Abi, Laura and Wes

3rd Practice:

1st Place: Bennett and Annie

2nd Place: Emma and Ian

The swimmers that got first place will receive an ice cream certificate and swimmers that came in second place will receive a gift from the draw bag of surprises.

Last Week:

On Monday the swimmers had their distance day to start off the week with some relaxed swimming. Tuesday the swimmers had a great kick set where they broke certain distances in half and worked on beating their times from the longer distance in the shorter distance. On Wednesday the swimmers had a great sprinting day, we broke the practices into two groups (switching halfway through workout), one group started with a more dynamic longer sprint set and the other started with a shorter 25 (1 lap) swim set. On Thursday the swimmers had a similar set to Wednesdays but it had a concentration on IM’s (all four strokes). One set was 4x 125′s IM (5 laps) with a double up on one of the strokes, the other set was 3/3 transitions (a set from Cal) were the swimmers sprinted 3 strokes of one stroke straight into 3 strokes of another. The swimmers had another great baseball (sprinting from the blocks for time) game and some prep work for the Strawberry Meet this Saturday.
